Reducing our environmental impact has been high on our list of priorities since we opened our first practice in 2012. Nowadays we are widely recognised as one of the leading practices in the UK for sustainability, and Francesca often writes about green issues in primary care settings within her monthly column for Optician magazine.

In 2023, we received a Gold Award, the highest possible accolade, from the Greener Primary Care Scheme and we were also awarded the Community Action Special Award for our work to reduce waste by supplying postage materials to the public for reuse. We liased with the Greener Primary Care team to suggest actions that could be added into 2024’s framework and we are on track to receive the Gold Award again this year. We were named their Team of the Month in May 2023, and again in September 2024 – with a tree being planted in the NHS forest on our behalf on both occasions.

We were named as a finalist in the Green Practice of the Year category at the very first Optometry Wales Awards in November 2023. We also came second place in the Sustainable Practice Award at the national Optician Awards in 2022 and we have been shortlisted in the same category of this year’s awards, winner to be announced on November 22nd.

Also in 2022, we wrote an open letter to all of our suppliers to ask that they reduce their use of single use plastic. Optician Magazine publised a small article about this as part of their Sustanability issue.

In 2018, we launched New to Me, which is our range of planet friendly, pre owned but good as new frames at bargain prices. Each one has been cleaned and reconditioned, ready to be loved by someone new.
