Presbyopia affects patients in their forties and older. The word ‘presbyopia’ actually means ‘old sight’ and the condition is characterised by someone needing help focusing on near objects, even if they have never worn glasses before or if they wear them already for distance or general use.
Presbyopia is particularly noticeable in dim light and is characterised by the patient having to hold print further away to read it. Presbyopia is easily resolved with varifocal or bifocal glasses and multifocal contact lenses.
