We are pleased to inform you that we have invested in a new piece of equipment called an OCT (optical coherence tomography) scanner. This cutting edge technology allows us to scan the back of your eyes to help contribute to a more accurate diagnosis and more detailed record of the health of your eyes. This is particularly helpful in detecting and monitoring conditions such as age-related macula degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
An OCT scanner is the first piece of equipment that allows the optometrist to see parts of the eyes that can not normally be viewed. This extra information can lead to more accurate and often significantly earlier diagnosis of eye conditions like macula degeneration and glaucoma and is also helpful to generate a long-term view of any progressive changes in the health of your eyes.
An OCT scan is not part of a routine or NHS sight test, but part of a more in-depth examination of the health of your eyes and it is available to book alongside any adult sight test.
Please let us know if you would like an OCT scan and it can be scheduled for you.
